Your primary care veterinarian has referred your pet to the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Referral Center (VRC). We look forward to serving you and being a partner in the care of your pet.
Referral Only Appointments
Once your primary care veterinarian has referred you to the VRC, a team member will call you to discuss your needs and schedule an appointment. The team member will do their best to match your schedule with our clinic schedule. We will obtain medical records from your primary veterinarian and your primary veterinarian will receive information by fax about all diagnostic tests performed and the results of those tests.
On Appointment Day
If your pet is currently receiving medications, please bring all medications in their original containers with pharmacy label to your appointment. Plan to provide important information about your pet’s medical history, diet, physical activities, and any recent behavior changes during the medical evaluation. This information can be of great help to our veterinary team. Please write down any questions you have for our team, so that all of your concerns are addressed.
Additional Specialized diagnostic testing is normally available on the day of your initial visit (radiographs or ultrasound.) If additional testing is needed, this will be performed on a different day and may require travel to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center located in St. Paul.
If your pet is hospitalized, you will be updated at least daily by phone, and you are welcome to visit during clinic visiting hours.
VRC requires a payment of 75 percent of the initial hospitalization estimate before we can provide care. If your pet is receiving outpatient care only, you will be required to pay the bill as you leave. Payment options include cash, checks, credit cards, and CareCredit.
